This is the first time I hear the term "meta-programming" -- looking it up already. I've used several IDEs over time and I personally think you need to use the one you feel most comfortable with. My current employer suggests we all use Eclipse because everyone is using it and there's plenty of sources to get help off out there. However, I've occasionally sidetracked from this suggestion and used other text editors/IDEs that I think would accomplish the task faster/better than the aforementioned editor. It depends on the situation and what it is you're trying to get done.

Nice post. Keep it up. :)

Interesting read. I have to admit I never heard of the concept, but will definitely look it up. The topic reminded me of a close friend of mine, who I consider the "most stupid smart person I've ever met", who mentioned the other day while complaining about the language we use at work, how he "only programs in real languages". I just thought to myself, shouldn't a REAL programmer do it in the language that best gets the job done?

And I'm totally with you one getting mocked for NOT using the IDE/editor everyone uses. I for one, liked JCreator, for Java, and almost everyone constantly kept asking why didn't I use Eclipse or Netbeans, and how better they were. You know what? Truth is in the eye of the beholder, what's best for you doesn't necessarily have to be the best for me.
